1) Let's start with an
intro, tell us about yourself and where you are from.
My name is Ruby Gloom (Original name: Ruby Chan Ka Yu). I’m 21 years old now and I’m from Hong Kong. I’m now an Artist, Fashion
model, Fashion Editor for a local Beauty/Fashion website and a Stylist. I
studied in English Studies in my Tertiary education.
2) How would you
define your personal style?
I don’t have a specific
term for my style actually. People usually classified my style as Harajuku
fashion because of the use of colours and crazy style but I deny as I usually
add punk or gothic into my fashion too. I have a crew of friends who love
similar style too and we came up with a term called “Loli-punk” which means a mixture of the colorfulness
of lollipop and punk’s elements.
3) Who are you
inspirations, any icon?
I get my inspirations from everywhere in my everyday life.
I usually dress up according to my mood and current obsession. I love being a
different character /theme everyday but no Cosplay (from animation characters).
For example sometimes I want to be cute, I will wear pastels or sometimes I
want to wear red and yellow, I will dress up with a “Mcdonald’s” theme.
4) As an artist, what
is the importance of creating personal style?
I think understanding the true you is the most important to
create your own style. Sometimes we are inspired by someone or something but to
avoid from copying, we need to add our own personalities into a style that we
want to achieve. For me, I’m a very changeable
person so I never fix myself into a specific look.
5) Compared to the
west, how is the fashion scene in Hong Kong?
In Hong Kong, fashion is boring. People usually dress in dark colours and they don’t really care about individuality. Youngsters usually follow the main trend and wear whatever local celebrities wear. But since the rise of Asian fashion thanks to K-pop, HK people started to accept more colours but still, they are following what is hit.

6) Top three places to
shop in Hong Kong.
B Be Bee (A really
cool accessories shop owned by my best friends) , Mee & Gee (A 2nd
hand shop selling Vintage clothes), H&M (Simple stuff for mix and match)
7) First thing you
notice in someone's outfit.
The whole feeling his/her outfit gives out. Although I love exaggerating stuff, I appreciate simplicity too but it really depends on how someone achieve it no matter what style.

8) What are you staple
pieces in your closet?
Oversized-tee shirts and skirts in different pattern/colours.
